Yuba City is the economic hub of the Yuba-Sutter region and home to Sunsweet Growers, which operates the world's largest dried fruit processing facility.
Yuba City was incorporated on January 23, 1908, and became Sutter County's county seat in 1856, establishing itself as the region's administrative and commercial center. Today the city serves as the agricultural, economic, and social hub of the Yuba-Sutter region, a designation rooted in its location in the Sacramento Valley, one of North America's most productive agricultural areas.
The most visible marker of that heritage is Sunsweet Growers, a grower-owned cooperative founded in 1917 that operates the world's largest dried fruit processing plant from its Yuba City headquarters. The company produces approximately 20 percent of the world's prunes and has grown to include other dried fruits such as apricots and dates. For more than a century, Sunsweet has anchored the regional economy and employment, drawing its supply from local farm families whose livelihoods depend on the harvest.
In a region where agricultural work runs through family histories and defines household income, planning for the income years matters most. Farmers and small-business owners with land, equipment, or employees who depend on their decisions often need more coverage than a simple income calculation suggests, and the years until succession or retirement are the years a policy must protect.
